AFC Wulfrunians 2 - 0 Boldmere St. Michaels
The Mikes started their road to Wembley in this year’s E.O.N sponsored FA Cup with a trip to Wolverhampton to face AFC Wulfrunians of the Sport Italia West Midlands League Premier Division, defending a 100% start to the season and knowing that a mouth watering trip to FA Cup giant killers Chasetown awaited the winners.
Off the back of injuries to Mark Mason and Jason Holmes from the midweek win against Highgate United the mikes had another blow when Lee Osbourne pulled up in the warm up which meant he was replaced by Jamel Fuller.
On a fine playing surface Boldmere had the first opportunity inside two minutes when Wulfrunians keeper Danny Tipton punched away a header from the late addition to the starting line up Jamel Fuller.
Wulfrunians were starting to look dangerous and on 13 minutes a shot from Ade Bandele just went inches past the mikes post. Wulfrunians were on top and on 19 minutes broke the deadlock when Ade Bandole curled a shot from theedge of the penalty area over 'Mikes' keeper Adam Jenkins into the net to make it a deserved one-nil lead to the home side.
Boldmere had a free kick on 28 minutes which found Stuart McNaught shoot just past the post. Wulfrunians were continuing to look dangerous and nearly had a second on 32 minutes when Andy Mitchell’s shot was turned round the post by 'Mikes' keeper Adam Jenkins. From the resulting corner Mikes keeper Adam Jenkins was grateful to watch the ball clear the bar by a matter of inches.
On 40 minutes Boldmere’s Nathan Gough had a shot which was well saved by Danny Tipton to give Wulfrunians an unexpected half time lead. In the second half it was the Wulfrunians who the first chanceon 56 minutes when Ade Bandele’s shot was deflected for a corner.
Boldmere were starting to chase for an equaliser and on 67 minutes Ricky Baker found Nathan Gough whose shot was saved by Danny Tipton. A minute later Ricky Baker went on a solo run but his shot went past the goal face.
Whilst commiting men forward looking for the goal to keep the tie alive Boldmere were leaving holes at the back and on 85 minutes Wulfrunians exploited this and wrapped the game up when Kyle Brady was put through and simply stroked the ball under an advancing Adam Jenkins to make it two-nil and cause an upset of sorts.
AFC Wulfrunians will now look forward to a great day adventure in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup away at Chasetown of the Unibond League Divison One South in two weeks time.
