A new look reserve team took a while to settle down as Rovers opened the brighter of the two sides. Veteran skipper Hanlon marshalled his new colleagues well and as the first half went into the later stages strikes from Tom Clews (playing as an emergency centre-back) and Tom Law gave the Mikes a comfortable lead at the break. Tom Law's goal capped a fine individual half and his performance augured well for the future. In the second half played in very hot conditions it seemed as though Mikes were content to see the game through at 2-0 but a late goal by the Rovers led to some jittery moments before the final whistle.
