Boldmere St. Michaels 5 - 0 Highgate United
The Mikes began their 2009-10 home MFA League campaign looking to build on a fine opening day win away at Bridgnorth. There was one change from the opening day with Mark Mason coming in to replace Lee Osborne who picked up a knock in the pre match warm up.
‘The Mikes’ started sharply forcing a corner inside the first minute kept the pressure in and on 5 minutes got an early break through when a Jason Holmes pass found Ricky Baker who shot under the advancing Perry Cox in the Highgate goal to make it one-nil Boldmere.
The pressure kept coming from Boldmere and on 11 minutes added a second when Ricky Baker went on a superb solo run and fired a stupendous 25 yard screamer into the corner of the Highgate net.
Highgate’s first chance came on 12 minutes when they forced a corner but it was comfortably punched away by Boldmere keeper Adam Jenkins. Three minutes later Boldmere were forced to make a change when Mark Mason came off after picking up a knock to be replaced by Nathan Gough. Highgate’s chances were few and far between and on 28 minutes they had a free kick but again Adam Jenkins had it covered with ease.
There were a few crunching tackles starting to creep in and on 32 minutes Boldmere were forced to make a second change when Jamel Fuller came on to replace Jason Holmes who had been the target of a few meaty challenges.
Highgate’s best chance came on half time when Tom Thacker was thread in on goal, his effort was blocked by Boldmere defender Adam Wood and then Chris Gummery nearly pulled one back for Highgate but ‘Mikes’ keeper Adam Jenkins made a superb diving stop to retain a confortable lead at half time for the hosts
Boldmere started the second half on the front foot and on 47 minutes a Nathan Gough cross from the wing found Jamel Fuller who fired home past the Highgate keeper to put Boldmere in a very comfortable position.
On 54 Minutes Boldmere nearly made it four when a Jamel Fuller’s cross come shot rattled the Highgate cross bar. On 69 minutes Nathan Gough found Stuart McNaught who lobbed the Highgate keeper but the shot was cleared off the line by the defence. Things started to get heated a minute later when Highgate’s Jamey Osbourne seeing yellow for a late challenge on Boldmere’s Stuart McNaught which also saw Stuart picking up a booking for dissent towards the referee Lisa Rashid.
Highgate kept going and on 80 minutes ‘Mikes’ keeper Adam Jenkins tipped a Highgate shot over the bar. Boldmere’s Simeon Tulloch went on a great solo run going past several Highgate players before passing to Nathan Gough who fired over the bar from close range. Boldmere made their last change with Anthony Juxon replacing early sub Nathan Gough .
Boldmere piled on the misery for Highgate and on 83 minutes it was four-nil when Simeon Tulloch went on a solo run and at the angle fired in to the bottom of the net.
Boldmere completed the scoring on 88 minutes when Stuart McNaught went on a long run and his resultant cross was fired home by Jack Brown to make it five-nil and set things up nicely for the mikes trip to AFC Wilfrunians of The West Midlands League Premier Division in the FA Cup on Saturday
