Boldmere St. Michaels Res 3-0 Brocton

Saturday 13 February 2010
Midland Football Combination Reserve Division
The Mikes Reserves 3-0 Brocton Reserves

The Mikes registered a comfortable victory over lowly Brocton in a largely uninspiring contest, which was notable only for the quality of the goals scored.

The home side was on top throughout, but was unable to convert their possession into any real advantage. The first two chances came from corners, when Andre Gonzales first kick flashed across the face of goal with Richard Dunleavy just failing to get the decisive touch. Jack Stone then headed a glorious chance over from six yards.

The Mikes didn’t have to wait too long to score. Ramarlo Barrett opened his account for the club with a strike of real quality. His surging run from midfield saw him arrive on the edge of the box in the inside right channel. He touched the ball away from his marker before driving a superb shot across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

The Mikes were causing all sorts of trouble from set pieces, with Johaine Thompson scooping over following another corner. Thompson was then released through on goal, cutting across his marker before attempting to slot home. However, the visiting keeper produced a brilliant save to smother striker’s effort.

Adam Morton was then released in a similar position, but was unable to get the ball out of his feet and was crowded out by the Brocton defence.

Half Time: The Mikes 1-0 Brocton

The Mikes started the second period with much more purpose, moving the ball quickly and forcing a corner in the opening seconds. The next quarter was played almost exclusively in the Brocton half, but little was being created in the way of chances.

It took a flash of brilliance to double the lead. Seabourne played a cross-field ball to substitute Jack Brown on the left wing. Brown worked his way to the bye-line before pulling the ball back to Johaine Thompson some 20 yards out. The Mikes leading scorer turned away from his marker before unleashing a rocket into the top corner to take his tally to 18 in 12 games.

The visitors enjoyed a spell of possession as the home side took their foot off the gas. The returning Adam Jenkins produced an excellent save to preserve a clean sheet, before the Mikes rounded things off with a third in stoppage time. Jack Brown surged inside from the left flank before slotting in fellow substitute Tom Clews, who guided the ball home via the inside of the post.
