Boldmere St. Michaels Res 0-1 Highgate United
How to tempt fate in one easy lesson!
JW says to MH forty eight hours before this game, “Mike you know something, I cannot remember the last time we put in a bad performance”, Mike replies, “no John I am struggling remember”?
Well now I can, with the most abject performance since we lost to Coleshill at home twelve months ago, when the flying Mikes where forced into giving three poor first teamers a game and weakening its squad, that 1-0 home defeat went a huge way to costing us the league title.
Twelve months on again history repeats itself when we are informed of playing three first team players, only this time every member off the team was at fault, ok the keeper Sean Butler had his usual solid game if you don’t look to close at his kicking, and youth team defender Shane Maydew was probably man of the match, but just an average performance would have won it, we was so poor, it was so surprising? The usually top draw midfield was not at the races, creating very little due to the slow movement of the ball, when it seemed that Boldmere just wanted to look pretty without hurting the opposition. In fact other then a couple of wayward half chances , Mikes did not have a worthwhile attempt on goal up until the closing minutes, when three presentable chances were spurned to give ultra defensively minded Highgate a well deserved three points, and probably ended Mikes challenge for the title at the same time.
