Boldmere St Michaels Reserves v Tamworth Reserves
Boldmere and Tamworth served up an Easter treat for the decent sized crowd, and this preamble to their Cup final promises to be a bit special if the two league games are to be followed.
Mikes showing five changes from their disappointing draw at Atherstone on Saturday knew game was likely to be tight and with some good football provided by both teams and played at a good tempo and spirit in the hot conditions.
The only down turn was the referee’s insistence on making decisions the opposite of what the teams believed, this brought him into conflict with the two dugouts and vociferous crowd for long periods of the game.
Tamworth made the first breakthrough going close when well placed, Mikes immediately responded back with Robinson hoping to have done a little better, the game became an end to end thriller with both teams battling for supremacy, but with both defences looking strong clear chances became a premium.

The second half started with the Lambs dominating possession but unable to open up the mobile Mikes defence with outstanding contributions from youth team star Shane Maydew, Peter Gould, Jamel Fuller and Jon Rutter.
Mikes with other youth teamer’s making excellent contributions to the cause it was fitting when youth team striker Tom Law, who worked tirelessly all day and held the ball up superbly well, put Mikes into a lead with fifteen minutes to go, scoring from a brilliantly delivered corner from substitute Declan Clarke, Law having to come off the field for treatment in scoring the goal.
Tamworth responded well to going behind, and made full use of the numerical advantage and equalised within three minutes, when home keeper Sean Butler was beaten to a through ball.
The game swung around again in the dying minutes when Tamworth where reduced to ten men due to injury after making all three substitutions, a wicked in-swinging free-kick from Clarke got deflected by the visiting central defender that the keeper could only palm into the net to give the Mikes the three points.
