Boldmere St. Michaels Res 3-0 Pilkington XXX
An impressive display saw the Mikes overcome Midland Combination Premier Division outfit Pilkington XXX in the Smedley Crooke Cup.
Pilks - fresh from an 8-goal mauling of Bartley Green at the weekend - had the best early chance when Michael Campbell fired a presentable chance over after bursting through.
The Mikes were generally on top throughout and opened the scoring when Jack Brown popped up in the opposition box to turn the ball home.
Shaun Butler ensured the lead remained intact at half time when he produced a great save to keep out a fierce 18-yard shot destined for the top corner.
The Mikes second goal killed the game early in the second period. The manner of the concession visibly knocked the stuffing out of the visitors. Kevin Buxton whipped in a wicked inswinging corner from the left flank. Visiting keeper Kenny Sanders was unable to deal with the delivery, and the ball dropped over the line for 2-0.
The Mikes were totally dominant, Jamel Fuller missed two great chances from balls drilled across the face of goal, Andy Lewis was denied by Sanders, who parried his stinging 20-yard drive and gathered at the second time of asking. Buxton then nearly repeated his earlier trick from another left wing corner, but this time Sanders plamed the ball away.
Fuller then rolled his defender and in one movement volleyed towards goal, but Sanders was equal to it, turning the ball behind for a corner.
The Mikes were not to be denied a third goal to seal their victory. Tom Stevenson met a right wing corner unchallenged, and turned the ball home from close range.
The Mikes saw out the remaining few minutes without too much alarm, to celebrate what turned out to be a comfortable victory against good
