Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves 4 - 6 Quorn
A shocking defensive display from the league leaders condemned the Mikes reserves to their second defeat in a week, and they can have little complaint after making at least six changes to the starting line up for the third week running. With their defensive frailties fully exposed, in fact if the rampant visitors had been more clinical in the opening ten minutes it could have been even more embarrassing to a team that has become used to dealing out good hidings to the opposition over the last fifteen months. A lack of pace, match fitness and organisation from the Mikes defence was exploited time and time again by the visitors, fortunately for Mikes the visitors defence was only one level better then our own, and Mikes came from behind to take a unbelievable half time 4-2 lead through goals by Thomas Clews (2), Roland Agbor (penalty) and a brilliantly worked set-piece finished off by Andre Calder. The only defensive player to come out of this game with any credit was youth team debutant Shane Maydhew, who unfortunately had to be replaced at half time due to an ankle injury. Fine displays by Kevin Buxton and man of the match Jamal Fuller, where overshadowed by the appalling performance from the defence, and the sending off of Peter Gould, the Mikes who hit the post twice in the final ten minutes finished the game with nine men as the unfit Thomas Clews became nothing more then a passenger for the last fifteen minutes after Mikes made a desperate triple substation to try and salvage something. The mikes aspirations of wining the league title have been severely derailed by the elevation of several players to the first team over the last three weeks, and with no players coming down to the reserves from the first team, it looks very much like start again time, with the youth team set to be given there opportunity to step up sooner rather then later.
