Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves 4-0 Oadby Town Reserves

The Mikes charged into their third cup final of a super season with this emphatic win over Oadby.

Boldmere, the Challenge Cup holders, began the game a goal down from the first leg, but started the game a little bit flat, maybe not surprising after being forced to play their eleventh game in twenty-nine days – an absolutely disgraceful order on behalf of the Midland Combination in my view, and a major contributor against the Mikes championship aspirations.

The game was pretty even until Mikes caught out the visitors defence after 22 minutes with a short corner from the quick thinking Lyndon Weller and Jon Rutter, setting up Mark Mason to finish well, Mason then showed his striker’s instinct with a super finish to put the Mikes in command, after this little was to be seen from the Oadby attack, and Mikes comfortable went into half time wondering why they had not added to the score.

Boldmere ended any resistance Oadby may have had when then gained a soft penalty after a late and clumsy challenge forced the referee into pointing to the spot, Mason took the responsibility to notch a smashing hat-trick to match his overall high work output.

Mikes made a triple substitution with striker Tom Clews coming on and getting his eighth of the season to seal in the end a comfortable victory. Mikes will now meet Tamworth in the final at a ground and date to be confirmed.

Mikes man of the match selection was always going to be difficult with the whole team putting in a real shift but special mention should go to Jamal Fuller a constant threat with some decent end product, Kevin Buxton and Andy Lewis yet again dominating the middle of midfield, at the centre of defence Andre Calder was an absolute rock ably supported by Jamie Fisher’s game on game improvement.

But for his return to goal scoring form I have gone for hat trick hero Mark Mason.
