Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves 9-2 Banbury United
The Mikes stormed to a resounding nine goal win over struggling Banbury on a freezing and foggy afternoon. Mikes had Neil Hanlon, Andre Calder , Kieran Robinson and youth team keeper Steve Chorley in the starting line up with John Williams and Stuart Cox on the bench after making returns from injury, also on the bench was new signing Chris Conway.
Mikes dominated the game from the first whistle pushing back Banbury into a ten man defence, who tried to catch out the probing Mikes with rare but quick counter attacks. Boldmere dominating possession primarily through Andrew Lewis and Kevin Buxton but where struggling to find the correct final ball for the first quarter of an hour but Mikes finally loaded up the visitors box with Andre Calder failing to find the final touch from a yard out, Banbury hit back immediately and should have took the lead also failing to find the net when well placed much to the relief of the home side. Mikes made the visitors suffer for this miss by going straight up the other end of the park for their enigmatic leading goal scorer Robinson to rifle in the opening goal. A brilliantly worked free-kick straight off the training ground, saw John Rutter find Calder to head down for the effervescent Buxton to drive home to stretch the lead and five minutes before half time another brilliantly worked set piece from the exquisite delivery of Rutter led to skipper Hanlon notching the third from a corner, further chances where created and failed to be taken to extend the lead further.
H.T. Mikes 3 v 0 Banbury
Mikes added further goals through Roland Agbor and another for Robinson, before Banbury showed some real spirit by hitting back with a couple of goals themselves, the second one a brilliant clip into the corner after an error from substitute Cox. Boldmere quickly got their superiority back with further goals from Cox making up for his earlier error, Conway with a brilliantly taken debut gaol but could have had a hat-trick, and a second goal for Buxton and a third for Robinson his thirteenth of the season. Boldmere could and should have made the result even more emphatic but poor finishing from several players let the visitors of the hook a little.
