Boldmere St. Michaels Youth 2-3 Coventry Sphinx
The young mikes welcomed Coventry Sphinx to Church Road for this important MYFL Premier Division fixture on a wet cold night.
Without a recognised goalkeeper tonight it was midfielder Reiss Byfield who took the gloves but Boldmere forced a corner off the kick off which was cleared. Coventry’s first chance came after 3 minutes when a corner was headed by Cooper over the bar.
A minute later a long range shot from Freeman was saved by Reiss Byfield.
Boldmere eventually took the lead on 21 minutes when a ball from Johaine Thompson found James Walker who shot home past Dave Allen in the Sphinx goal to make it one - nil.
Seven minutes later it was nearly two when a Craig Jones shot was dropped and gathered at the second attempt by the Sphinx keeper.
Coventry Sphinx equalised after 42 minutes when Dave Freeman ran unchallenged down the Boldmere wing and shot past Reiss Byfield to make it one all.
Just as the half time whistle was looming Coventry Sphinx took the lead in stoppage time after an initial shot hit the bar from the resultant corner Perry Hill headed home to give Sphinx a two - one half time lead.
The young mikes bought on Mulholland at the Start of the second half but it was Coventry who were testing the keeper with two shots in quick succession being saved by Reiss Byfield. Coventry did get a third on 53 minutes when a long ball found Danny Loney who shot in the bottom corner of the net.
On 74 minutes Johaine Thompson had a chance for Boldmere when his effort from a corner just cleared the Coventry bar.
A minute later the young mikes made it three - two when Tom Law made the most of a defensive mix - up and fired home past the keeper. The young mikes had a last gasp effort for a share of the points then the Sphinx keeper collided with a defender but Johaine Thompsons shot was deflected over the bar and Coventry Sphinx hung on for the three points.
