Banbury United 0-2 Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves
Mikes reserves showing seven changes from their last outing of two weeks ago, four of the new starters without any competitive football this season made the trip to Banbury United to defend their 100% start to the season.
Mikes dominated the game from the first whistle, with keeper Dan Cobb not having a single save or cross to make during the whole game, but the lack of match sharpness was apparent from the outset, but with the ever dangerous Simeon Tulloch making twenty five crosses into the opposing penalty box during the first half alone it was only going to be a matter of time before the rampant Mikes secured victory. Andre Calder dominated the middle of park against his three opponents with power and presence to spare, Peter Gould played at the centre of defence with an assurance way beyond his years to the extent that skipper Neil Hanlon was hardly missed. Adam Swain was back to his very energetic best, continually adding support to our baying forwards, surly not far away from a first team call-up on this performance? John Rutter eventually settled down to show the classy player the club are hoping he will develop into a first team regular. Striker Sean Mann and defender Jamie Fisher made club returns, and both gave their maximum to the cause, with Mann’s work rate outstanding, continually putting the opposing defenders under the cosh, ably supported by a goal-a-game Thomas Clews and the left sided prowess of Jamal Fuller who gave the side great balance and thrust. The opening goal came on the hour after another super cross by Tulloch saw predator Clews finally gain a yard on the excellent home defence to put a glancing header into the top corner of the net. This brought about a change with the ginger ninja Kevin Buxton coming on to replace the subdued Dom Colson, and Buxton extended the Mikes lead with his first exquisite touch, picking up on a delightful through ball from Clews, Buxton “megged” the first defender, ghosted past a second then placed the ball into the corner of the net but the home keeper pulled off another quality save but Buxton was hand to finish the job. Boldmere who did not play badly but it was a game that was fast developing into a day of frustration, until the first goal settled the contest?
