Barwell 0 - 2 Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves

Boldmere St Michaels Reserves v Barwell Reserves

Mikes Reserves made the trip to Leicestershire, to meet long time rivals Barwell, showing two changes from the side that performed so well on Monday in the win over Tamworth. In came star midfielder Andy Lewis after a couple of weeks with the first team and skipper Neil Hanlon for just his second start in three months due to injury.

Mikes made a terrific start, pressing the home side into a series of errors to force an early corner; the delivery by Kevin Buxton was brilliantly executed for Hanlon to power home his fifth goal of the season.  Boldmere then took their foot off the gas and become slip shod with a series of uncharacteristic errors, turning the half into a disappointingly scrappy affair, Mikes still brought out a couple of excellent saves from the the home teams best player, and had a dozen other good opportunities but failed to hit the target with any. Our congenial hosts where still very much in the game, and had a couple of good opportunities themselves that on another occasion would have scored from.

The second half was a much better affair for the Mikes after a half time realignment of attitude brought a positive response from the team, and dominated the opening fifteen minutes keeping the home side penned back in the first third of the pitch, but the well drilled defence failed to be breached and their occasional breaks looked more likely to equalise, Boldmere needed a flash of brilliance and it was to come in the form of Lyndon Weller, who is starting to find his very best form to go with some excellent team work, after turning his defender inside out, Weller hit a terrific shot that the home Keeper could do little about.

Youth team leading goalscorer, Joaine Thompson came on for the final twenty minutes to show some great power and presence that augurs well for the Mikes for next season.
