Barwell Reaction
The Mikes Reserves stay in second place in the Midland Combination Reserve Division following a comfortable home win against Barwell, maintaining their 100% home record in all competitions.
The Mikes excellent goalscoring form continued as they registered three goals, which takes them to 17 in 5 league games. Striker Tom Law helped himself to two goals after Andre Gonzales had capitalised on a defensive mix up to walk the ball home for the opener.
Joint Manager Rob Clarke commented: “Overall we were in control. When we kept it simple the football was excellent. They had a spell of pressure in the second half when we threw all three subs on and changed the formation, but we defended well as a team. At 3-0 we decided to get all three subs half an hour’s football, so I take responsibility for that.”
The game ended in a flurry of cards, as the visitors’ frustration became evident in a succession of fouls. Clarke added “We got some rough treatment which was disappointing me, but the game was won and we allowed ourselves to get suckered into the friction.
If the officials hadn’t been dealing with it then maybe I could understand it to an extent, but the referee was the best we’ve had and was in control. The lads have been left under no illusions about what Mick Hawkins and I thought about it, but it shouldn’t detract from a good performance against a side that caused us problems last time out.”
The Mikes Reserves are also at home in the Midland Combination Reserve League next Saturday 10th October, when they entertain last season’s champions Chasetown. (3:00pm).
