The Mikes put their Midland Combination Division 1 visitors to the sword as they began their defence of the Smedley Crooke Cup with their second nine-goal blitz in four days.
The Mikes named an unchanged side for the first time this season. The victory was soured by a nasty ankle ligament injury to Richard Dunleavy, who fell awkwardly challenging for an attacking corner.
Goals:
Johaine Thompson (3)
Opened the scoring by cutting in and driving home a vicious shot that the keeper was unable to keep out
Drove the ball home following another powerful run
Coolly slotted home a one-on-one chance with the keeper to complete his hat trick
Tom Law (2)
Sweetly stroked the ball into the bottom corner from 18 yards
Rolled the ball home from 12 yards after Johaine Thompson’s effort had been blocked by the keeper
Simeon Tulloch
Another fine solo effort, running on unchallenged from the halfway line, before coolly rounding the keeper and rolling the ball home.
Darrell Francis (2)
Mikes substitute rose head and shoulders above the visiting defence to power home a header following Andre Gonzales superb corner kick.
Almost a carbon copy header, with Gonzales again the provider
Andre Gonzales
Rounded off the scoring, firing home a 12 yard shot with the aid of a deflection, but was simply trying to atone for having his penalty saved with the score at 8-0
