Boldmere St. Michaels 1-0 Oldbury
The Mikes grabbed 3 points from an uninspiring contest against Aspire MFA basement boys Oldbury United. The game had a distinct end-of season feel about it, with little in the way of goalmouth action.
The visitors were unfortunate not to lead at the break when a 'goal' was controversially chalked off by the assistant referee who somewhat debatably ruled that the ball had already crossed the line for a goal kick.
The Mikes were trying to play football, but were making little headway agaisnt a dogged United defence. The winner came courtesy of a neat Jason Holmes finish in the 69th minute, following excellent work along the goal line from Mark Mason.
The contest was disrupted by a nasty looking injury to visiting keeper Adam Marusiak, who fell awkwardly after Holmes volleyed a half-chance over. The game was held up for over 10 minutes while the stricken keeper was stretchered off. The Mikes send their best wishes to him.
There was only one remaining opportunity of note, Marquise Bryan squandering a golden chance to equalise as he escaped from his marker despite a large suspicion of handball.
Although this was not a vintage performance from the Mikes, manager Rob Mallaband was pleased with a win and a clean sheet.
