Boldmere St.Michaels FC are hosting the 2009 Birmingham Communities League final
Boldmere St.Michaels FC are hosting the 2009 Birmingham Communities League final between Kurdish UK and Nawroz on Thursday December 3rd 2009.
The Birmingham Communities League is a Football Foundation funded initiative that runs in partnership between Aston Sports Club and Community Resource and Information Service, to provide a stepping stone 11-a-side league for teams from the new migrant communities to Birmingham and help them get into mainstream leagues.
The initiative is supported by the Birmingham County FA, and Social Inclusion Officer Mohammed Juned said, “It’s sometimes difficult for quality players to get into mainstream 11-a-side leagues and the BCL offers a starting point to help access these leagues as well providing a high quality competition.”
Both teams that reached the final, Kurdish UK and Nawroz are of Kurdish origin from Iraq.
Kurdish UK are a new team, drawing in players from Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry, managed by Arif Osman. Nawroz won last year’s final in a tense penalty shootout, and are managed by Shwan Mohammed.
Nawroz Manager Shwan Mohammed said “Last year’s final was an amazing experience for us, and the thought of having the opportunity to win again is keeping the players on their toes.”
League chairman, Matt Kendall said, “We started out with 10 teams from a variety of countries and we are left with just two fighting for the trophy. To be honest, these two teams are probably the best organised and play to a very highest standard. They also look evenly matched, so it should be an excellent final.”
Entry to the ground at Boldmere St. Michaels Football Club, Trevor Brown Memorial Ground, Church Road, Boldmere, B73 5RY – is free of charge.
