Boldmere St Michaels 1-3 Barwell
The Mikes welcomed the MFA leaders to Church Road who arrived with 7 wins and 2 draws from 9 games and having scored 39 goals and having only conceded 1 and so the mikes were underdogs going in to this.
Barwell took control of the game quickly and inside 3 minutes Adam Jenkins was forced into action to save at the feet of Nigel Julian.A Minute later a Barwell corner was headed past the post by Jamie Towers.
Barwell eventually broke the deadlock after 5 minutes when a corner was pushed out to Nigel Julian who from 25 yards out fired into the roof of the Boldmere net to make it one-nil. The mikes first opportunity came a minute later when lee Osbourne fired over the Barwell keeper but a defender cleared the ball away from goal.
Barwell doubled their advantage after 10 minutes when Jamie Towers got clear of his markers and fired past Adam Jenkins into the corner of the net. Three minutes later Sean Cunnington Just shot past the mikes post.
Boldmere eventually settled down and started to play on 29 minutes the ball broke free inside the Barwell penalty area Nathan Gough hitting the ball off Barwell's keeper Liam Castle for a corner. Two minutes later a Nathan Gough cross found Ricky Baker whose effort inside the penalty area was pushed around the post by Barwell keeper Liam Castle.
Barwell made it three-nil on 33 minutes when Nigel Julian turned inside the Boldmere penalty area and volleyed into the roof of the net to leave the home team in a whole lot of trouble. Boldmere had an opening just before half time when Simeon Tulloch passed to Adam Wood who headed just the post.
Boldmere started the sharper in the 2nd half on 54 minutes Adam Swain's long shot just going past the post and 4 minutes later a Swain effort again was punched away by Liam Castle for a corner.. On 64 Minutes a downward header by Barwell's Kevin Charley was saved by Adam Jenkins.
Boldmere finally got on the score sheet and so became only the second team to breach the Barwell defence this season on 68 minutes when Nathan Gough crossed a ball over and was scrambled in in a crowded Barwell penalty area by Lee Osborne to bring some respectability to the scoreline.
Having already bought Kirk Smith on Boldmerte decided to also bring on Jamel Fuller and Jerrad McGivern to try and change things in the last few minutes. Barwell were still chasing the game in the last few minutes on 84 minutes Shaun Cunnington raced clear but his effort was saved by Adam Jenkins and in stoppage time it was Barwell who nearly added a fourth when Liam McDonald's effort on the area edge was tipped over the bar by Adam Jenkins as Barwell eased home with plenty to spare and on this form are already dead certs to pick up the MFA title come next May.
