Boldmere St. Michaels 2-1 Studley

Boldmere St Michaels went joint top after this fine result against in-form Studley. On a sunny winters day at Church Road the first chance of the afternoon fell to the visitors and Peter Saunders, whose long range

shot called goalkeeper Jenkins into early action.  Boldmere soon worked their first effort when Lyndon Weller found Lee Osborne, who ran goalwards before unleashing his shot on target.

Ricky Baker was next to test Studley goalkeeper Dave Adey after being assisted by Adam Wood, the advancing Adey gathered the ball from Baker’s stride.  Jamie Bailey soon after should have scored for Studley, rounding Adam Jenkins before sending his shot high and wide.

Kirk Smith setup Jason Holmes with his low cross which well defended by Damon Griff who put over his own bar.  The same combination helped Boldmere open the scoring on 27 minutes with Holmes firing in from inside the area. Adey was on hand to tip the ball over the bar following Osborne’s effort just before half time.

In the second minute of the second half Kirk Smith's free kick found Adam Wood in space and his effort on goal went just wide. Two minutes later Boldmere doubled the lead after strong claims for a penalty were ignored in favor of the advantage, play continued to Ricky Baker whose pass into the box found Kirk Smith; his fierce shot beat defenders and goalkeeper alike.

An injury to one of the assistants then halted proceedings.  After the re-start, 9 minutes top go Studley got a goal back which would set up a nervy finish.   Dean Brierley at the back post headed back towards goal finding Dean Curtis, his header on goal was blocked by Jenkins, the ball continued rolling along the goal line and in a scramble Peter Saunders pounced to score.

In the final minutes Boldmere had both goalscorers sent off and Studley, revitalised by the goal and numerical advantage sensed they could get something from the match.  Boldmere defended their lines and held on for a fine 3 points.
