Boldmere to train at Newcastle United's training ground
The Mikes have secured the use on Friday night of Newcastle United’s training ground which is close to Whitley Bay’s ground.
Mikes manager Rob Mallaband revealed: “I just called them up cold, I didn’t know anybody up there. I rang them up and asked. They came back and agreed to let us use their training facilities.
“It’s absolutely great for us as the ground is only 10 to 15 minutes away from where Whitley Bay play,”
Newcastle train at Darsley Park, It lies next door to Northumberland Football Association base at Whitley Park, North Tyneside and was built in 2003.
The whole complex comprises of four buildings, the main building housing the main reception, changing rooms, managerial offices, meeting rooms, gym, physiotherapy, restaurant and a recreation area. Adjacent to this is the laundry area where all the strips and training gear is taken care of. Next up is the indoor pitch, a full size pitch with a rubber based astro turf, called FieldTurf, shielded from the elements by a tough canvas covering. Finally there is the green keepers building.
Other local sportsmen also benefit from the facilities at Darsley Park including the Newcastle Falcons rugby team who use the indoor facility to train when bad weather render their Kingston Park pitches unplayable.
