Welcome to Boldmere St. Michaels Football Club
Boldmere continued their fine run of AMFA form at Crown Meadow. On a very difficult heavy surface, the Mikes dominated from start to finish, giving keeper Adam Jenkins his quietest afternoon in a Boldmere shirt.
Despite kicking up the steep slope, the majority of the action took place at the other end of the pitch. On 17 minutes, Jason Holmes missed a glorious opportunity, volleying well over after the ball found its way to him on the edge of the six yard box.
Fresh from his hat-trick for the reserves, Keiran Robinson was proving well worth his first start, giving his opposing number a torrid time. He skipped past his defender only to be upended in the box. The referee waved play on to the amazement of most in the ground. Robinson regained his feet to nick the ball away from his marker, only to be tripped again. Again, to much amazement a goal kick was given as the home defender walked away somewhat sheepishly.
Robinson was not to be outdone, beating his marker all ends up with a sublime piece of skill before delivering a teasing cross into the danger area. Jason Holmes atoned for his earlier miss by nipping in front of a hesitant home keeper to guide the ball home for the opener after 27 minutes.
Robinson was at the centre of more controversy minutes later when he was upended in the area by another clumsy challenge from his hapless adversary. The referee shocked everyone by producing a yellow card for Robinson, much to the annoyance of his team-mates.
A flurry of yellow cards followed for the away side for seemingly every foul conceded. However, the official played a fine advantage in the build up to the second goal on 36 minutes. Lee Osborne had pulled into a wide area on the halfway line. With the linesman flagging for holding by Osborne's marker as he tried to latch onto a through ball, the referee allowed play to progress. Osborne wriggled free to leave his marker for dead, before clinically despatching the chance from 20 yards for a 2-0 half time lead.
It's often stated that 2-0 is the most dangerous score in football. The Mikes blew that theory out of the water a minute after the restart. A fine p*ing move released Lee Osborne in the inside left channel. He drove ball across the face of goal, where Lyndon Weller timed his run perfectly to guide the ball home at the far post.
The game was over as a contest five minutes later with two goals in a minute. Jason Holmes turned his marker inside out to fashion a chance. Home keeper Taylor braveley blocked his shot, and recovered to block the rebound. Holmes recovered the loose ball before skipping round the prone keeper. From a narrow angle, he chose to square the ball to Lee Osborne who was waiting for a tap in at the far post. Home defender Andy Penney, who was desperately trying to cover the open goal, only succeeded in diverting the ball into his own net.
A minute later, Osborne doubled his personal tally, slotting home into the bottom corner past the advancing keeper.
At that stage, it looked as if Boldmere could score at will, but that was the last time the scorers were troubled. A flurry of substitutions somewhat disrupted the flow of the game. The home side seeing much more possession, without ever seriously threatening the Mikes goal. The Mikes played the last 10 minutes with 10 men when Stuart McNaught was taken off as a precautionary measure following a slight knock, after all three substitutes had been used.
