Bromsgrove Reaction

Wednesday 03 March 2010
Midland Football Combination Reserve Division
The Mikes Reserves 2-1 Bromsgrove Rovers Reserves

The Mikes were grateful to their substitutes for the goals as they snatched a dramatic late victory at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground. It was no less than The Mikes deserved after dominating the contest and wasting a hatful of chances.

After a goalless first half, The Mikes deservedly took the lead just after the hour from the penalty spot. Simeon Tulloch was fouled and sub Jorma Seabourne slotted home with his first touch. More chances came and went, and the Mikes were made to pay. On a rare foray into Mikes territory, keeper Adam Jenkins could only divert a close range cross into his own net for the equaliser.

Tom Law hit the bar from a yard out when it looked impossible to miss, then The Mikes were denied a cast iron penalty in the dying seconds when Simeon Tulloch was absolutely clattered as he went round the keeper.

Despite an obvious kick in the teeth, The Mikes bravely kept going and were rewarded with the last attack of the game. Tom Law atoned for his earlier miss, as his delightful pass released top scorer Johaine Thompson to drive home an unstoppable shot for the winner.

Rob Clarke reflected on the game “I’m still numb. The possession stats would be unreal for that game, but we nearly missed out for being so wasteful. It showed that we hadn’t played for over two weeks, but the winning goal was full of quality. Tom Law’s earlier miss was of Ronny Rosenthal proportions, but he was our best player on the night and his ball for the winner was top-drawer. Few players can see those angles and Johaine added another emphatic finish. Not getting the penalty seemed to throw both teams, but all credit to the lads for picking themselves up and keeping on until the end. That was the start of a season defining month for us, so hopefully we’ve shaken out some rust and can get rolling”

The Mikes Reserves are away at Banbury United on Saturday, but are again at home next Wednesday 10th March. They entertain Oadby Town Reserves in the Midland Combination Challenge Trophy Quarter-Final.

Please note that this match kicks off at 7:15pm
