Burton Albion Preview Birmingham Senior Cup

League 2 new boys Burton Albion visit the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground tonight, in Round 2 of the Birmingham County FA Senior Challenge Cup.

The Mikes will look to build upon their excellent first round victory over Walsall, as they face another home tie against Football League opposition. The Mikes add Simeon Tulloch and Richard Dunleavy to the squad following impressive performances for the reserves on Saturday, with both players finding the net.

Burton reached Round 2 by despatching The Mikes’ MFA rivals Coleshill Town 4-1 in the first round. The Brewers won promotion to the Football League last year as Blue Square Conference Premier Champions. On the way, they visited Boldmere at the same stage of the competition. A 7th minute goal settled a hugely entertaining contest in favour of the visitors. The Burton Line up included then Manager Nigel Clough, ex Nottingham Forest star Gary Crosby, and former Derby and Wycombe keeper Martin Taylor.

On Saturday, Burton narrowly avoided an FA Cup shock when they progressed 3-2 at home to non-league Oxford City, thanks to a winner in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Let’s hope for an equally entertaining contest this evening.
