The FA Cup with Budweiser - Extra Preliminary Round |
Congratulations to our tenants Castle Vale, who came from a goal down to overcome The Mikes' Baker joiner MFA rivals Heath Hayes in their Extra Preliminary Round tie on Friday night.
Former Mikes player Gareth Palmer's team found themselves a goal down midway through the half, when keeper McGuire needlessly brought down Chris Deakin and the Hayes striker dusted himself down to stroke home the penalty.
Vale responded quickly and equalised on the half hour, when a well flighted free kick was met by Joe Halsall, whose well directed header from 12 yards found the top corner. Two minutes later the turnaround was complete, as Vale won a penalty of their own and Danny O'Callaghan despatched emphatically.
In the second half Hayes were reduced to ten men and failed to seriously threaten the Vale goal. Ahmet Bilgimer - who had a spell with The Mikes last season - drilled home a superb shot on the turn to seal Vale's passage and secure the £750 prize money.
They now face a home fixture against the winners of the AFC Wulfrunians v Bloxwich United tie.
The Mikes' own Extra Preliminary Round tie kicks off at 3:00pm on Saturday, at home to Vale's league rivals Bartley Green. For a full preview of that tie CLICK HERE.
