Chasetown 2 - 0 Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves
Boldmere reserves suffered their third defeat of the season, going down to rivals Chasetown due to a disappointing first half performance. Chasetown totally dominated the first half and the only surprise was they failed to convert more opportunities then they did, an ineffective forward line coupled to a midfield continually giving the ball away, left the square back line continually exposed to the speedy counter attack. The opening goal came inside the quarter hour, from a an incisive break that looked to have drifted by to a wide position but Sean Butler failed to hold onto the ball and it trickled over the line. Soon after, another quick break due to loss of ball possession saw the home forwards walk the ball over the line with simplicity. Chasetown was awarded an appalling penalty decision for hand ball against Andre Calder when the referee made the decision over the better placed assistant who did not give the decision – Butler made a simple save. Mikes only opportunity came from a well drilled John Rutter corner that the home defence scrambled off the line.
HT 2-0
What a difference the break made, Tom Bailey came on for the injured Calder, and from the first whistle Mikes set about the home defence with the assured passing that they are renowned for, inside opening ten minutes the Mikes best opportunity was created thanks to a twelve pass move that split the home defence but the stretching Jamal Fuller hit the bar from a metre out and again the home defence scrambled the ball to safety. The Mikes continued to dominate and create several good half chances but there lack of finish and solid home defence meant their was no way back for the visitors. Chasetown was still menacing on the break and could have added to their total but for the improving Sean Butler, and a determined Tom Bailey.
FT 2-0
