Boldmere St Michael’s Youth 0-1 Chasetown Youth
The Mikes Youth team slumped to a disappointing single goal defeat in a game that was there for the taking.
The Mikes were the better team in the first half but were let down by their poor final ball from some very promising situations. It was the visitors who came closest to scoring, hitting the bar from an excellent long-range effort.
The second half saw the Scholars mostly on top, but not really troubling the home back line, well marshalled by Liam Morrell and Reiss Johnson.
The game turned on a moment of madness from Chris Ward, who left the referee with little option but to flourish the red card following a poor lunge from the home striker.
The resultant pressure finally told in the final ten minutes, when a free header from a corner eluded keeper Louis Connor for the decisive goal.
The Mikes fashioned one late chance for an equaliser, but Leon Weller couldn’t make full contact as he attempted to lob the ball over the advancing keeper and the chance was gone.
Manager Mark Clarke reflected “We lacked quality on the ball at crucial times. The players need to relax on the ball”.
