Colin Burton Memorial Game 2009

The annual Colin Burton memorial Match will take place here at Church road on Wednesday 16th September 2009, kick off 7.30pm.

A team of former Boldmere players at who were here during Colin’s time at the club will take on Mile Oak Rovers.

Entrance to the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground will be free, but donations to St Giles Hospice are welcomed.

Colin Burton was long-standing reserve team manager at the Mikes during Alan Parson’s reign.  A hugely popular and well-respected figure, Colin is sadly missed by all who knew him.

Before arriving at the Mikes, Colin also provided sterling service to his local club, Mile Oak Rovers.  Both teams readily agreed to contest a memorial game in his memory, and continue to support the annual fixture.

This will be the sixth time that the match has been contested since Colin’s passing. Boldmere Old Boys currently lead by 3 wins to 2.

The above picture was taken in the Tamworth FC clubhouse in May 1998.  It shows Colin (holding cup – in black jacket) fully enjoying his team’s Fazeley Charity Cup triumph.  The Mikes Reserves defeated Barwell Reserves 3-0 on a night that has gone down in Boldmere folklore, mainly thanks to the raucus celebrations in a local curry house!
