Coventry Sphinx 1- 4 Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves

The Mikes completed an emphatic league double over a young and talented Sphinx side that will feel a little hard done to by the final score.  Boldmere always carried the greater goal threat and created the greater number of chances but Sphinx where the dominant team on possession for much of the first half when Mikes ended the half to be fortunate leaders by a single John Williams goal. Boldmere have the dynamic midfield magicians Andy Lewis and Kevin Buxton to thank for this victory, it is difficult to think of a better partnership currently playing at this level then this pair in this form with outstanding work rate coupled to ingenuity on the ball. Mikes where well supported by Youth team player Shane Maydew who once again put in a faultless performance at centre half with skipper Peter Gould and keeper Sean Butler also in command at the back. Two early second half goals by Andy Milan created by John Williams put Mikes in command, but the home side showed great character and a never say day spirit that caused a home defender to be sent off on 80 minutes for violent conduct alongside Lewis for a second yellow for reacting to the incident – both offences could and should have been dealt with by a warning from the letter of the law referee in a game where there was not a bad tackle in the whole game! Sub Luke Bradley completed the scoring with a late cross shot that had the enigmatic home keeper beaten at the near post.

Man of the match – Kevin Buxton
