Welcome to Boldmere St. Michaels Football Club
It was 4th Vs 2nd going at the start of play and it was the at home Sphinx who looked likely to take an early advantage, having certainly started out the blocks the quicker of the two. In the 14th minute their hard work was rewarded once Jamie McAteer converted from Woodward's corner.
The Mikes, unbeaten in 12 league games since Coventry's away victory at Boldmere back in September, did not let their heads drop and within 5 minutes were back on level terms. Joint leading scorer Mark Mason increased his tally to 9 league goals for the season by tapping home from Lee Osborne's cross.
The visitors hit with a quick one-two, taking the lead following a calm finish from Osborne, rounding the keeper after McNaught's through ball.
In the 36th minute an excellent run by Swain had an excellent end product with a testing ball into the 6 yard box. Simeon Tulloch got on the end of the cross, throwing himself to push the ball home.
Boldmere completed a remarkable first half's scoring on 40 minutes, Osborne's direct run from wide right, cut in and low pass found Swain who made no mistake to ensure Boldmere went in at half time with a 4-1 lead.
In the second half Boldmere started how they finished the first, scoring goals. Fine work from Juxon found Osborne who slotted home for his second of the afternoon on 47 minutes. Osborne then turned provider on 66 minutes when his cross was headed home by Wood for 6-1.
Two minutes later referee Jackson pointed for a penalty for a foul on Freeman. It was calmly dispatched by Thacker for 6-2 to the away side
On 84 minutes Boldmere won a free kick 20-25 yards out which was taken by Tulloch to the far post, met by the head of Juxon the unlucky Coventry Sphinx keeper was picking the ball out of the net for the seventh time of the afternoon; however this would not be for the last time. Boldmere with a minute to go were awarded a penalty which not-surprisingly Lee Osborne, on a hat-trick claimed responsibility for. He struck the ball well but Sphinx's keeper, despite getting a hand too could not stop the ball from hitting the back of the net to round off a resounding 8-2 away victory for the Mikes, a result which saw Boldmere take top spot of the Aspire Midland Football Alliance.
