The Mikes Reserves round off their 2009/10 league campaign with two tough trips to Leicestershire in three days. On Saturday, they visit Barwell, before a Bank Holiday Monday trip to face Quorn.
Wednesday’s win at Highgate guarantees at least a top three finish for the Mikes, but they currently sit top of the pile, knowing that two victories will secure the league title.
The Mikes won 3-2 at Barwell in the Challenge Bowl Group stages back in September courtesy of Johaine Thompson’s treble. The Mikes also prevailed in the home league fixture, securing a 3-0 victory. However, The Canaries are now top of the home form table with wins in each of their last five outings at Kirkby Road.
Monday’s match is a quick reunion for the sides, with The Mikes triumphing in last week’s Challenge Bowl final at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground. It was The Mikes who also emerged victorious from a cracking home league encounter, with Johaine Thompson’s late winner securing a 5-4 win.
Rob Clarke looked ahead: These are massive games, which the players are looking forward to. Saturday will be an extremely tough game. Barwell are top of the home form table, but we are also top of the away form table, so it should be a cracker. They’ve beaten the other top sides there, so we’ll have to be right at the top of our game. It may be an old cliché, but we‘ll think about Monday afterwards. It’s all too close to call. Whatever happens, it’s fantastic for the lads’ development to be involved in games like these.
