Preview Vs Droitwich Spa
The Mikes Reserves begin their defence of the Smedley Crooke Cup with a home tie against Droitwich Spa FC, who ply their trade in Midland Combination Division 1. The sides met in pre-season, drawing 4-4 in an entertaining game played at Droitwich’s King George V Ground.
The Mikes have no new injury worries following their 9-0 demolition of second-placed Oadby Town on Saturday. They will be looking to continue their superb cup form this season, having already secured a semi-final place in the Midland Combination Challenge Bowl, boasting a 100% record from their 5 group games.
Joint Manager Rob Clarke looked ahead to the game. “Following Saturday’s win spirits are obviously high, but we’ll make sure they don’t get carried away. Games in these outside cup competitions are great for us, as it gives us the chance to measure our progress against teams from outside our own league. Playing against first teams is a good barometer. The lads passed a similar test in fine style against Bustleholme in the BCFA Midweek Floodlit Cup recently, so they will be confident. However, we know that Droitwich showed in pre season that they are more than capable of coming here and getting a result. We’ll pay them the respect they deserve but go all out to win the game by keeping our performance levels from recent weeks. If we do that, we’ve got a fighting chance.”
