Ex-Mike player round up
Former Boldmere striker Kevin Charley had a profitable week at Barwell, notching the opener in Tuesday’s league win over Coventry Sphinx. On Saturday he went one better, bagging a brace (one penalty) as the Canaries came back from two goals down at home to defeat Coleshill Town 3-2.
Also on the spot was Callum Gittings, who followed up his recent goal at Church Road with a pair of successful penalties on Saturday, but there were no points to show for his exploits as Kirby Muxloe prevailed 6-4 at Lye Meadow.
Perhaps Matty Gardner should have practised with Gittings during his short spell with Church, as he missed from 12 yards for his latest Club Stratford Town. He will not be unduly concerned, as Town overcame Westfields by 2 goals to 1 at the newly renamed DCS Stadium at Knights Lane.
In the Zamaretto League Midland Division, Chris Sturridge-Packer bagged the clincher in Atherstone Town’s 3-1 victory at Stourport Swifts.
Meanwhile, In the Midland Combination, Gareth Palmer and Andy Hibbert will be delighted with their Castle Vale team’s goalscoring form, with 11 goals in the week. On Tuesday they won 5-4 at Nuneaton Griff in the BCFA Midland Floodlit Cup, before following that up with a 6-0 league thrashing of Racing Club Warwick at the Vale Stadium.
