Gresley Rovers 0-4 Boldmere St. Michaels Football Club
Boldmere made the trip into Derbyshire to meet struggling Gresley, resting seven players from their last starting line up due to Monday evenings eagerly awaited Cup Final against Champions Chasetown. Boldmere with several youth teamers starting the game made rapid strides into the home team half and created several good moves to continually keep Gresley on the back foot. Star of an excellent first half was last seasons youth team skipper Declan Clarke who ran the midfield with super passing skills and vision before coming off just after half time with blisters, he was ably supported by a high quality performance from current youth team player Nathan Wall. Up front Mikes had the magnificent work rate and finishing acumen of another youth teamer, Joaine Thompson who fully deserved his two goal haul after linking well with the ever industrious Tom Clews, at the back an awesome display from twenty reserve appearance youth team star defender Shane Maydew, again ably supported by the “veteran” pairing of Neil Hanlon and Jamie Fisher with the return from holiday of Jon Rutter, left keeper Shaun Butler with little to do for most parts of the game. The added return of Nathan Gough after several months working away from the area was a pleasant and welcome return to last seasons Clubman of the year as was Matty Black’s return from University.
Further goals from leading scorer Kieran Robinson and skipper Neil Hanlon gave the Mikes a comfortable win in the end.
