Gresley Rovers 0-1 Boldmere St. Michaels Youth
After a break of nearly 4 weeks due to postponments it was back to action for the Young mikes as they ventured to Gresley Rovers for the 3rd round of the MYFL League Cup the young mikes having been exempted to this stage. The mikes came in with several injuries and the cause wasn't helped when the only available keeper Steve Clorley injured himself in the warm up causing an emergency juggling of the squad which led to defender / Midfielder Shane Maydew starting in goal.
On a cold night Boldmere could easily have had a penalty early on when a player was bought down by the keeper in front of goal but not even a yellow card was produced. The young mikes had a chance on 29 minutes when a through ball put Jerome Chambers through but could only just shoot past the post. On 42 minutes Johaine Thompson had a shot delected over the Gresley bar.
The second half started quietly the ball going back and forth in midfield but the young mikes had a great chance on 65 minutes when Johaine Thompson crossed over for Jerome Chambers to fire over the bar from 6 yards out. Shane Maydew was having a quiet night in the mikes goal but he shined on 67 minutes when he rushed out and saved a shot from their no10.
Boldmere finally got the breakthrough on 77 minutes when a Sam Truelove cross found Johaine Thompson to fire home what turned out to be the winning goal and so earn their passage to round 4.
