Hammers nailed by 'The Mikes'
Post Match Reaction: Thursday 15th April 2010
Cradley Town 0-9 Boldmere St. Michael’s
Aspire Midland Football Alliance
The Mikes made it three wins in six days as they went goal crazy in an embarrassingly one-sided contest at Beeches Avenue. The rock bottom Hammers were no match for the Mikes who never looked back after taking a first minute lead via Simeon Tulloch.
Tom Laws helped himself to a hat-trick, while Jason Holmes continued his recent goalscoring streak with a brace. Neil Watkins netted his second spot kick of the week, while goals from Kirk Smith and Tom Stevenson rounded off the scoring.
The only downside was a needless red card for Andy Lewis, who picked up two cautions after coming on as a second half sub. The win takes the Mikes up to seventh place in the table.
Manager Rob Mallaband commented “it was all a little bit farcical. We won 9-0 and could have had double that. It’s hard to keep shape and good habits in those circumstances, but we kept carving out chances”.
Congratulations go to Barwell, who secured the Aspire MFA title with six games to spare, registering 100 points from their 36 unbeaten league games so far. They secured the crown thanks to a 6-0 win over Bridgnorth Town, with former Mikes striker Kevin Charley scoring the fifth goal.
Congratulations also go to Coalville Town who are confirmed as MFA runners-up, and also to Alvechurch for securing a place in the final of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
