Heather St Johns Reaction

The Mikes Reserves maintained their 100% home record in all competitions with a 3-2 league victory over Heather St John’s.    The Mikes came from behind to lead 3-1, before conceding a late second to lend the scoreline a more flattering angle than the visitors probably deserved.  The Mikes played good football throughout, but at times made harder work of the victory than their domination of possession merited.

Joint-manager Rob Clarke commented: “some of the passing was a joy to watch today, but once again we could have been more clinical and killed them off sooner.  I was disappointed with the goals we conceded.  There were some valuable lessons in the concession of a late second, when we should have comfortably killed the game off.  It’s admirable that the lads look to still play and push forward, but there are times where it’s more prudent to just close the game out.  It’s important that we learn these lessons as we go along.  However, I don’t want that to detract from a really good team performance today with far more positives than negatives.  Overall, I’m absolutely delighted with the football the lads are playing”.

The Mikes Reserves return to Challenge Bowl action next Saturday 19th September, when they visit Barwell (3:00pm).
