Highgate United 1-2 Boldmere St. Michaels Youth
The young mikes ventured to Highgate for this bonfire night encounter in The Birmingham FA Youth Cup keen to avenge their earlier league defeat a couple of weeks a go. Highgate had a early chance on 3 minutes when a Jake Brown shot just cleared the bar. Highgate nearly took the lead on 17 minutes when a shot from Troy Baker hit the bar and bounced down onto the goaline but was frantically cleared away by the Boldmere defence.
Boldmere made the breakthrough a minute later when a pass put Jerome Chambers through who raced clear and shot under Richard Kirby in the Highgate goal to make it one - nil Boldmere. A Jerome Chambers shot forced another save from Richard Kirby on 34 minutes.
Highgate's best chance of the half came on 37 minutes when Jake Brown had a shot pushed away by debutant mikes keeper Steven Clorley Boldmere's first chance of the second half came on 54 minutes when Jordan Gibbon's shot was saved at the second attempt by Richard Kirby. Boldmere doubled their lead on 65 minutes when a Steven Clorley goalkick directly found Johaine Thompson who raced clear of the defence and shot under Richard Kirby to create a two goal lead for the young mikes.
On 72 minutes Troy Baker had a shot for Highgate which was saved by the legs of Steven Clorley. Two minutes later Highgate pulled a goal back when Stephen Mason turned and volleyed in the roof of the Boldmere net. Highgate had a chance to level in stoppage time when a Tom Giddings shot hit the keepers hand but got stuck in the mud and so Boldmere earned their passage through to the last eight of the competition.
