Mikes Defeat Walsall

The Mikes provided the perfect response to Saturday’s horror show, producing a superb performance to overcome Walsall in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Rob Mallaband took the chance to check out some of the young talent emerging through the reserves, with Richard Dunleavy and Johaine Thompson both impressing on their first starts.  Matt Hawker also slotted into midfield.

The Mikes had to overcome the early loss of Keeper Adam Jenkins, but Sean Butler once again proved he is more than capable, producing key saves to keep the Mikes level at the break.

Thompson had a major hand in the first goal, creating the opportunity for a rare Ricky Baker header.  Nathan Gough sealed the win with another header.

Manager Rob Mallaband was understandably delighted “that was just what we needed after Saturday.  Everybody played well on the night”.  Assistant Craig Feasey added “it wasn’t just a good result, it was a good performance”.

The Mikes will attempt to take this form into Saturday’s away league fixture at Shifnal Town.
