The Mikes Reserves travelled to Kirkby Road knowing that a win would keep the destiny of the league title in their own hands, but were to endure a frustrating afternoon.
The first half was an even, with defences on top as both sides were restricted to long range efforts. The Mikes stepped up the pace in the second half, but the massed ranks of the Barwell defence repelled their sustained onslaught to gain a hard earned point.
Rob Clarke reflected “it was pure frustration, on and off the pitch! I can’t fault the desire, but maybe they were trying a little too hard and lost a little composure as a result. Although they are gutted, it is valuable experience that will stand them in good stead”.
The Mikes Reserves return to Kirkby Road again on Thursday night, hoping to round their season off with a third successive Challenge Trophy success.
