Lichfield City 1-3 Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves
Saturday 17th July 2010 - Pre Season Friendly
The Mikes returned from a blustery Brownsfield Park with a hard earned victory to open their pre season campaign.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Mikes came back strongly to overcome their Midland Combination Division 2 opponents with second half goals from Aaron Evans, Nathan Gough and Kadeem Batchelor.
Joint Manager Rob Clarke was understandably pleased “I would like to thank Manager Dean and everyone at Lichfield City for their superb hospitality on Saturday. It's a nice set up and it's obvious that they are a very progressive club. The clubhouse is excellent and there was a very good atmosphere about the whole place.
The game was somewhat dominated by the wind, which was blowing straight down the slope and made it the stereotypical game of two halves. Lichfield led 1-0 at the break with a well taken goal from a corner. It was evident they had played a couple of games while it was our first outing. We equalised quickly after the break and generally had the better of the second half. Two goals in a couple of minutes in the last quarter gave us the win.
It was a good, competitive contest which is valuable for our young lads, particularly the six youth teamers in the 16. We also had a number of players playing together for the first time, so it was great to win the game. There is obviously plenty to work on, but that’s expected at this stage. I was particularly pleased with our fitness levels, which is a testament to how hard the lads are working.
I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and can't speak highly enough of the hospitality we received and the food was also excellent. I'll definitely be looking to make this an annual pre season fixture.”
