Oadby Town 2-2 Boldmere St. Michaels Reserves
The Mikes first league game in five weeks produced their first draw of the campaign, following a disappointing display.
The result met with a rapturous reception by the hosts, beaten 9-0 at Boldmere only five weeks previously. The home line up showed only two names from that game, and the game panned out totally differently.
Both sides struggled throughout with the difficult conditions underfoot. After a goalless first half where the Mikes came closest to scoring when Anthony Juxon struck the bar, the Mikes fell behind minutes after the restart. A ball over the top eluded Jack Stone and the chance was despatched patch the advancing Lewis Fenney in the Mikes goal.
The Mikes replied swiftly, with Juxon making the most of the space afforded to him in the box, calmly stroking home from 10 yards.
It was soon two, with Johaine Thompson bursting through the inside right channel, before taking the ball past the keeper and slotting home past a defender on the line.
The Mikes were unable to build on their momentum and were pegged back by a goal from nothing. There seemed to be little danger with the ball near to the touchline in midfield. However, the Mikes allowed an unchallenged run towards the penalty area, and Lewis Fenney was wrong-footed by a swerving shot from distance.
Both sides pressed and had chances for a winner, with a decent penalty shout each. The final seconds epitomised the Mikes’ frustration. Jorma Seabourne chased down Juxon’s diagonal ball. Reaching it just before the bye-line, Seabourne drove the ball across goal. Fellow substitute Cam Fowler headed it back into the danger area, but two Mikes players lost their footing within the six-yard box. The final whistle sounded as the ball was hacked clear.
