Oadby Town 1-0 Boldmere St. Michaels Football Club
‘The Mikes’ travelled to the game with a depleted squad and things got even worse as skipper Neil Hanlon had to pull out of the game after picking up an injury in the warm up.
The first half was a fairly dull affair and the state of the rock hard pitch affected ‘The Mikes’ usual passing game.
Very few chances came about for either side in the opening exchanges but Oadby went ahead when an uncharacteristic error from Andre Calder allowed Oadby to gain control of the ball just outside the box and their left winger superbly curled the ball over Sean Butler’s head and into the top corner from the right wing.
The second half started with Boldmere pushing forward more and getting more into the game.
Kevin Buxton and Andy Lewis started pushing forward from the centre of midfield and Buxton should have equalised for Boldmere but blasted over from 12 yards after being set up by Joe McGrath.
Jamie Fisher also had a great chance to equalise for ‘The Mikes’ when an Andy Lewis free kick picked him out at the far post only for him to volley wide.
Oadby then defended their lead for the final 20 minutes by hoofing the ball long at every opportunity to see the game out to ensure they take a 1-0 lead into the second leg at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground.
