Oadby Town Reflection
The Mikes first league game in five weeks produced their first draw of the campaign, following a disappointing display.
After a goalless first half where the Mikes came closest to scoring when Anthony Juxon struck the bar, the Mikes fell behind minutes after the restart. A swift reply from Juxon and a goal from Johaine Thompson gave the Mikes the lead, but they were pegged back by a swerving long-range shot.
Joint-manager Rob Clarke reflected on the game: “The lads were disappointed with the performance. The pitch was difficult and I thought our lack of recent match action showed. It was a day for the basics, but unfortunately we didn’t do that on a couple of occasions and conceded sloppy goals. We’ll be better for getting this one out of the way, so hopefully that will show in our two big cup games this week”.
The Mikes play two home cup ties this week.
On Wednesday 16th December (7:30pm) they entertain Racing Club Warwick in the second round of the BCFA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup. The tie has twice fallen victim to the weather. A Quarter-Final tie at Massey Ferguson awaits the winners.
Next Saturday 19th December (3:00pm) The Mikes have a swift rematch with last week’s opponents Oadby Town, who visit the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground for a Quarter Final tie in the Midland Combination Challenge Trophy.
