Oadby Town Res 1 - 2 Boldmere St. Michaels Res
The Mikes reserves once again showed seven changes from the previous game and paid the penalty for it by losing their 100% winning start to the season, to a stronger, fitter, experienced and more athletic Oadby side. The reserves with five debutants dominated the opening half after falling behind to a well worked first minute goal that caught out Andy Lewis who was pressganged into playing right back from his usual central midfield position. Several half chances came and went before another debutant Roland Agbor who had a fine game in midfield missed two sitters with just the home keeper to beat. Then after 27 minutes Boldmere got on level terms when Simeon Tulloch escaped the clutches of the home defence to send in an excellent cross for Jason Holmes to tap in at the far post, this lifted the Mikes to greater efforts but there inability to find a cross or final ball was causing growing frustration within the camp. Then with the last kick of the first half, Dan Cobb under no pressure dropped a harmless looking cross at the feet of the home centre forward to grab the lead again. Half time 2-1
The second half started with the tiring Mikes midfield unable to prise many openings and Oadby becoming more and more confident, another speedy break caught out the Mikes to take Oadby into a two goal lead. Mikes immediately made three substitutions bringing on greater physical presence, and the change worked with Boldmere having two stonewall penalty appeals turned down by the “home” officials, much to the amusement of the home management team as the “home” officials turned out to be from Birmingham and Wolverhampton! With five minutes remaining big Andy Milan opened his account for the season with a deft header, but another cross a minute latter saw Milan looking to equalise with an easier header but inexplicable fell over, one last final push sent Milan away for a one on one with the keeper but the home defence was able to stifle the opportunity.
Final score 3-2, Man of the match Andre Calder his power, pace and distribution was a constant barrier to the home attacks.
