Midland Football Combination Challenge Bowl – Semi Final 2nd Leg
The Mikes Reserves welcome Chasetown to the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground on Saturday for the eagerly awaited second instalment of their semi final contest.
The tie is finely poised after The Mikes secured a first leg advantage a fortnight ago, winning by the odd goal in five in an absorbing contest at The Scholars Ground.
Chasetown currently sit top of the MFC Reserve League, and their first leg defeat broke a run of ten straight wins. The league game at Church Road went The Scholars’ way, winning a tight contest by three goals to one.
The Mikes form in cups has been excellent and they will be looking to take this into Saturday’s contest, which is a repeat of last year’s final in the same competition. Another close encounter saw our Staffordshire rivals triumph thanks to a goal in the dying moments of extra time.
Joint Manager Rob Clarke looks ahead to the game “This promises to be a cracker. We have a history of tight games and I expect this to be no different. Our performance in the first leg was excellent in terms of an away performance, defending really well and having a cutting edge going forward. They showed why they are top of the league with the two late goals. We take heart from the first leg, but know they have already proved they are capable of winning here. We’ll take nothing for granted, but if we play well we’ve got a chance. The lads can’t wait. Let’s hope the weather is kind!”

The Mikes are also scheduled to be in Cup action next Wednesday 24th February (7:30pm). They are due to entertain Oadby Town in the Quarter Final of the Challenge Trophy.
