Quorn 1 -4 Boldmere St. Michaels

The Mikes reserves returned to winning ways with a vengeance thanks to the inclusion of three experienced players, keeper Adam Jenkins a recent signing from Tipton Town making his debut, Tom Bailey making his return after several weeks injured and the enormously impressive Gary Barton – all three showed their greater experience and know how in guiding the young reserves into the quarter finals of the Challenge Bowl and exacting a small piece of revenge on the congenial hosts for knocking the Mikes off top league spot last week. The Mikes got off the perfect start, scoring inside the first twelve seconds of the game, super set up play by Roland Agbor allowed Kieran Robinson to come inside his fullback and fire into the corner of the net. Mikes midfield stars of man of the match Scott Barker, Andy Lewis and Kevin Buxton, terrorised the home team with their tenacity, endeavour and passing ability, continually closing down and robbing the opposition of the ball. It cam as little surprise when the Mikes added a second goal, and what a goal it was – Roland Agbor created the goal out of nothing and is already a certainty for goal of the season, “Roly” then capped his marvellous goal with a celebration to match it!  On forty minutes the outstanding midfield lost there way for there only time in the game and the talented home attack took full advantage to reduce the deficit.

HT Mikes 2 -1 Quorn

The second half saw the home team push forward and created a couple of promising situations but skipper Peter Gould, who had a great game in defence, quickly came to the Mikes rescue alongside John Rutter.  Mikes lightening quick forwards were a constant thorn in the home defence, and from a Robinson quick break, the ball broke kindly for Jamal Fuller to open his account for the season with a well drilled finish, this settled the Mikes and they created several other good opportunities before Robinson took his tally to seven for the season with his second of the game to wrap up a super footballing display in very difficult windy conditions.
