The Mikes Reserves rounded off their home league campaign with a 2-0 success over Banbury United, moving up to up to second place in the table in the process.
Both sides had chances in a goalless first half, after the Mikes had an early strike ruled out for offside. It showed signs of being one of those days, but Johaine Thompson powered through to put the Mikes ahead. The home defence tightened up after the break and the visitors rarely looked like equalising. Thompson rounded off the scoring in the closing stages.
Joint manager Rob Clarke commented “It was not our most fluent performance, but some days you just need to dig in and grind out a result. The pitch had dried out and was very lively, which influenced the game for both teams. We were much better after the break and deserved the win. Johaine had missed a few chances but showed his character by still putting himself in the right positions. He deserved his reward with the two goals. ”
