Rob Clarke's Highgate United analysis
The Mikes kicked off their home Aspire MFA campaign with a resounding 5-0 victory against Highgate. The Mikes played some scintillating football and scored five superb goals.
Rob Clarke was understandably delighted with the performance. “To start the season with maximum points and two clean sheets is very pleasing. We had to work hard tonight. The attacking players will inevitably get most of the plaudits, but we played well as a unit – we defended well and Adam Jenkins weighed in with three superb saves at crucial times.
I honestly rate two of the goals we scored tonight as probably the best team goals I’ve seen at this level. To go alongside some great football, the lads stood up to some very ‘robust’ tackling to say the least. I was delighted with the way they coped with the disruption of losing both strikers in the first half, how they kept their discipline in the second half, then imposed their football again to finish strongly.
The start is as good as we could have hoped for, but we’re not getting carried away. We’ll enjoy tonight, then continue the hard work in training on Thursday as we prepare for a very tough away tie in the FA Cup on Saturday”.
