Tamworth 1-0 Boldmere St. Michaels Res
Tamworth ended any hopes Boldmere had of winning this year’s reserve league with a 1-0 win in a close game at ‘The Lamb’.
The first half was a fairly one sided affair with Tamworth dominating throughout and creating numerous chances. Shaun Butler had to be quick off his line to deny Tamworth’s number 9 as he tried to take the round the keeper after being put in with a great through ball from midfield.
The keeper then made two more good saves getting down low to keep Tamworth at bay. However, he could do little about the came when it came midway through the half. A cross from the right wing was flicked into the back of the net with the deftest of touches.
The second half was a slightly more even affair with ‘The Mike’s’ having 3 good opportunities themselves. Jamel Fuller blazed well over when presented with a good chance on his favoured left foot before Mark Mason had a goal disallowed for offside.
‘The Mike’s’ had a penalty appeal after about 65 minutes but the referee and his assistant ruled that the foul had come outside the box. John Rutter’s effort from the resultant free kick flew just over the bar.
Tom Clews should have equalised late on when he beat his man on the right wing and cut inside the box but his effort was straight at the keeper.
Boldmere made all three subs during the final stages in an attempt to get back into the game but Tamworth got men behind the ball and defended strongly to see the game out with little trouble.
