The Mikes Smash NINE
The Mikes Reserves finally delivered the scoreline that their recent performances have been threatening, dismantling Oadby Town and nearly recording double figures.
The Leicestershire side arrived at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground sitting pretty in second place in the table. However, they made the return journey somewhat shell-shocked after The Mikes blew them away with a blistering first half performance that saw three goals in the first 15 minutes and a 6-0 half time scoreline.
The visitors showed just why they were second in the league with an excellent spell of passing football after the break, but the Mikes held their shape well and denied them any clear cut chances. The home side re-asserted themselves and added three more goals, but were unable to round the day off with the tenth strike.
Joint Manager Rob Clarke was delighted, commenting “That has been coming. We lost the last two league games but created enough chances to have won both games comfortably. Before the game I challenged the lads to keep the performance levels but be more clinical. They delivered in style on both counts, and the first half performance was a joy to behold. The danger after half time was that we’d take our foot off the gas. They had lengthy spells of possession and played some good football, but I was really pleased with the way we kept our shape and discipline and hardly allowed them a sight of goal. We then got back on top and should really have got double figures, but I’m certainly not complaining!”
